In 1943, World War II was in full force—and copper was in short supply. Therefore, the government authorized the use of zinc-coated steel for America’s pennies instead of copper. The Lincoln Penny was minted in steel for one year only, at three different mints—Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. This three coin 1943 steel cent collection contains a BU coin from each of the three mints. Very desirable!
