Here he is on his own legal tender coin…
The War Chief Behind Custer’s Last Stand

In 1874, an Army expedition led by Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer found gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota on the property of the Sioux Nation. The U.S. Government tried to buy the land, but the Sioux, considering it sacred ground, refused to sell; in 1876, federal troops were sent to militarily force the Sioux onto reservations. That June, Custer attacked an encampment of Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho on the Little Bighorn River. The result of that battle is a legendary part of our Old West history-- neither Custer nor the 209 men in his immediate command survived the day.

Now this 2023 non-circulating legal tender $1 coin of the Oglala Sioux Nation honors the war chief that lead the Indian warriors to victory that day.  His name was Tȟašúŋke Witkó, but we know him today as Crazy Horse.  This one troy ounce, .999 pure silver coin captures an amazingly lifelike portrait of Crazy Horse in full headdress on the obverse while the coin’s reverse depicts a stunning image of a Native American horse leaping forward. Both sides of the Brilliant Uncirculated coin have been struck with Ultra High Relief technology with a special antique finish to show the amazing detail and drama of the design. Only 5,000 of these masterpieces have been minted, so don’t be disappointed.  Reserve yours today.
