At 8:46 am on September 11, 2001, the history of the United States would change forever. American Airlines flight 11 would crash into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Less than 20 minutes later, another plane would crash into the South Tower, and our worst fears would be confirmed. It was not an accident; a massive terror attack was taking place on U.S. soil. An attack on the Pentagon followed, then the ill-fated Flight 93. In the months following the attack many lawmakers called for a National Day of Mourning and Remembrance. As a result, September 11, 2002, was proclaimed the first Patriot Day.
