Veterans Day is the day dedicated to honoring American veterans of all wars. It all began in 1918, when, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Originally commemorated as Armistice Day, it became known as Veterans Day in the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War.
Although World War I was thought by many to be the War to End All Wars, that was not to be. Since then, the U.S. has had to call on her young men and women time after time to answer the call of duty in defense of our freedoms. All have given some, and some have given all, but one thing is certain – they ALL deserve our wholehearted respect and gratitude. That’s why we’re honoring them now with the full-color Veterans Day Legal Tender $2 Bill.
