Created in 1891 as a way to keep young athletes conditioned during the winter months, the first game of “basketball” was played using a soccer ball and two peach baskets. A janitor had to drag out a ladder to retrieve the ball from the basket every time a “goal” was scored. From these humble beginnings, James Naismith’s game grew to one of the most widely played sports in the world. In 1959 the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was formed to celebrate the game and its creator.
To honor the 60th Anniversary of the Basketball Hall of Fame, an historic first was issued by the United States government – the first colorized United States coin! Now you can add this historic first to your collection FREE when you purchase the Deluxe 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Collection! We’ve taken a pure silver 2020 basketball proof coin and joined it with a limited edition two-ounce proof-struck silver bar, specially sculpted to continue the action from the coin to the bar. Together, that’s almost three ounces of .999 pure silver! Due to limited mintages, only 2,020 of these numbered sets are available worldwide. But that’s not all. You also receive a first ever full-color Basketball Hall of Fame half-dollar in its original government packaging, a $50 value, FREE with every set! And, as if this wasn’t reason enough to order, each of the Hall of Fame coins are curved, adding an extra dimension to their desirability. Don’t airball your shot to acquire these historic coins.
