In the 1960s you were still able to get Silver Dollars at face value from your local bank. As the prices of silver began to rise, demand for the coins began to skyrocket! So, Congress authorized the resumption of silver dollar minting and President Johnson issued an order for the Denver Mint to begin production, and the Peace Dollar design was chosen. Despite heavy opposition 316,076 coins were minted, but the White House soon buckled to the pressure and the entire mintage was ordered destroyed. As of today, no Peace Dollar has ever been found. Now, National Collector’s Mint has recreated this historic coin and a privately minted, non-monetary tribute to the original. Complete with the historic 1964 date and “D” mintmark – each stunning proof has been struck in 71 mg of .999 Fine Silver. Once our small supply of proofs is gone, they’re gone for good, so please don’t delay. Call now!
